City of Armadale Logo

The City of Armadale acknowledge the Traditional Owners and the Custodians of the land upon which we stand, work and play.

We acknowledge Aboriginal people as the First Peoples of this land and their connection to the lands and the waters, as they are part of them spiritually and culturally.

We acknowledge their ancestors, the Elders past and present, who have led the way for us to follow.

Nature Photography on your Smart Phone

Blending the best of botanical knowledge and the art of the perfect photograph, renowned wildflower phone photographer Sophie Xiang shares her secrets to taking the perfect photograph on your smartphone. This hands-on workshop includes basic theory about photography fundamentals, tips and tricks to get the best out of your smart phone camera, and finishes with a walk around outdoors to put your newly acquired skills to use.

Sophie Xiang has run workshops across the state including Mullewella, Ravensthorpe, Busselton, Northcliffe and Albany for many different organisations and groups. She has no academic photographic or botanical background and is entirely self-taught in both fields. Her story has been featured on Gardening Australia, ABC’s premiere TV gardening program. Her work has also been selected for exhibit at renowned art exhibitions, evidence of the quality work that smartphone photography can produce.

All you need is your smart phone, something to take notes on if you wish, and shoes suitable for hiking.

Accessibility information: This event takes place at the Armadale Environment Centre off Triton Crescent in Bedfordale. Parking is on unsealed gravel and may present some slip risks. Note not all paths around the main buildings are paved and there are some slopes. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact Kylie from the Arts & Events Team on 9394 0000 or events@armadale.wa.gov.au.
