Under the Emergency Management Act 2005, local governments are required to perform various tasks which assist the community to prepare, prevent, respond and recover from various emergencies.
Emergency management procedures are paramount, the City works in partnership with the community, agencies and other stakeholders in order to address risks that may affect the community, property and the environment.
The City has an active Local Emergency Management Committee (LEMC). This committee is made up of:

The LEMC meets quarterly to discuss the City’s current emergency services, preparation plans in the event of any emergency and how to assist the community to recover from such an event.
The City has plans and structures to bring together government, voluntary and private agencies in a coordinated way to deal with major emergencies. These plans cover the whole spectrum of emergency needs, including prevention, preparedness, response and recovery.
The aim of the City's Emergency Management Plans are to prepare for any possible emergency affecting the City of Armadale community.
The term Local Emergency Management Arrangements (LEMA) refers to the collection of all of the emergency management documentation, systems, processes, agreements and memorandums of understanding which affect the local government district.
The LEMA is the overarching document and associated sub-plans which the local government with the assistance of the Local Emergency Management Committee is responsible for developing, maintaining and testing.
These arrangements provide a summary of the actions required by the City of Armadale to comply with the Emergency Management Act 2005, State Emergency Management Policies and Plans, procedures and other guidelines. The Local Recovery Plan (LRP) addresses the restoration of emotional, social, economic and physical wellbeing of a community, the reconstruction of infrastructure and the provision of support services following an emergency and is an appendix to the LEMA.
The City’s Bushfire Risk Management Plan (BRMP) identifies assets at risk of bushfire and recommends actions to respond to those risks. The Plan outlines strategies to treat bushfire risk through the use of mitigation works and community awareness programs.
