The City of Armadale has developed a Community Safety Handbook to help promote a safer community. Hard copies are also available from the City of Armadale Administration Centre or you can email csadministration@armadale.wa.gov.au to request that a hard copy be posted to you.
The City of Armadale CPTED pilot project is designed to reduce the opportunities of crime and to improvement in the quality of life in the entire City. The four main principles of CPTED are Natural surveillance, Access control, Territorial reinforcement and Space management. Security Incentive Scheme has now closed for the 2024/2025 Round as funds have been exhausted. The City of Armadale's Security Incentive Scheme offers rebates to help residents improve the level of security within their home by installing security devices. Rebates up to the value of $200 (or $250 for approved concession card holders) are available for the following home security devices:
Home intruder alarms
CCTV systems
Keyed window locks
Security sensor lights
Security screen doors
Security window screens
Roller shutters
Video doorbells
Meter Box Security
Door deadlocks
Residents are only eligible for a rebate every five years. Please note that as this scheme has a limited budget, the City provides no guarantee that a security rebate can be provided to all applicants if the allocated budget is fully expended prior to the end of the financial year.
If you are a WA Seniors Card member, you can apply to receive the Safety and Security Rebate which allows a claim of up to $400 per household towards the purchase of eligible home security or safety item. Some general home security tips to be aware of include:
Ensure doors and windows are locked at all times
Make sure your house and street number are clearly visible from the street
Empty your letterbox regularly and make sure it is secured
Lock all gates, garage doors and sheds when not in use
Install a monitored alarm system and/or security light to deter intruders
Ensure doors and windows are fitted with security screens
Avoid hiding a set of house or car keys outside of your home
Engrave and photograph your valuables in case of theft
Record serial numbers of valuables
Get to know your neighbours
Become a member of Neighbourhood Watch
If you are going away:
Inform your neighbours and get them to keep watch of your property
Arrange for someone to collect your mail regularly
Leave a spare set of keys with a friend or family member
Cancel any regular deliveries such as newspapers
Set timers for your TV and lights to switch on and off at regular times
Before you leave ensure all windows and doors are secure
