The City of Armadale acknowledge the Traditional Owners and the Custodians of the land upon which we stand, work and play.

We acknowledge Aboriginal people as the First Peoples of this land and their connection to the lands and the waters, as they are part of them spiritually and culturally.

We acknowledge their ancestors, the Elders past and present, who have led the way for us to follow.

Healthy Fundraising

Get some ideas on how to make your next fundraiser a healthier one.

Why is healthy fundraising so important?

The consumption of fruit and vegetables by West Australians is well below the recommended requirements. Four in five adults (77%) aged 19 to 50 years do not eat enough fruits, and nearly all Australians (99%) aged two years and over do not eat enough vegetables. Additionally, in 2018, 70% of Western Australian adults aged 16 years and over were classified as overweight or obese (1).

Healthy fundraising can:

  • Encourage healthy eating

  • Make money for your organisation while promoting health and wellbeing

  • Show your community that you care about health

  • Provide satisfaction from being a positive role model in your community

Healthier sausage sizzle

Below are some healthier ideas and tips to make your next sausage sizzle stand out from the crowd.

  • Swap white bread with wholemeal, wholegrain or high-fibre bread

  • Limit the amount of oil you use

  • Leave the margarine off bread

  • Use salt-reduced or no added salt sauces

  • Add colour to your sizzle, make it a vegie BBQ, or make vegie kebabs

  • Use reduced fat and salt sausages (<10g fat per 100g and <500mg salt per 100g)

  • Provide kebabs, lean steaks, lean burgers and skinless chicken breasts

  • Work with your local butcher to see if they can add grated veggies to sausages or hamburger patties

  • Offer barbequed corn on the cob

  • Serve fresh fruit or salad

  • Have plenty of cold water available

  • Limit the availability of sugary soft drinks, and promote cold, plain water
