Parks Renewals and Upgrades

Learn about upcoming, current and recently completed parks projects Capital Works Program are improvements carried out by the City through: - Upgrades - Expansion - Renewal

There are a variety of playgrounds currently within the City of Armadale and each year the City undertakes playground upgrades or renewals in line with the Parks Facility Strategy or the asset renewal strategy. The City closely monitors and maintains all of the playground equipment to make sure it is safe to play, per Australian Standards.

To ensure that park amenities and upgrades are equitably distributed throughout the City, the Parks Facility Strategy has been developed. The strategy guides park improvements to ensure a planned, equitable, and sustainable approach is applied.

The distribution of District, Neighbourhood, and Local parks across the City allows us to maintain a balanced level of park quality and function across our suburbs. For example, a local park is designed for short-term use (with a smaller area of play and no amenities), whereas a district park will have opportunities to play all day and therefore may include toilets and barbeques.

When it is time to renew or upgrade a playground, we do our best to design it to be accessible, engaging and to cater to a wide range of abilities. The playgrounds must meet the needs of the children and caregivers who use them and fit within the allocated budget not just for the upgrade but ongoing maintenance as well. Our parks development team works hard to get creative and make sure we get the best solutions for the money available.

Parks Facility Strategy

The Park’s Facilities Strategy is intended to address the diverse community needs and expectations through the appropriate provision of space, form and infrastructure, ensuring parks and facilities are planned and allocated accordingly, whoever the provider, manager, or deliverer of the facility service might be.

This document provides an assessment framework to guide the provision of public open space and infrastructure by establishing a hierarchy of parks based on their size, function and infrastructure, founded on existing City of Armadale provision and benchmarked externally.

The purpose of the Parks Facilities Strategy is not only to provide information to developers operating within the City of Armadale but to guide and positively influence the City to improve and develop the City’s parklands in terms of the following:
