From 1 July 2023 the Armadale Landfill and Recycling Facility will no longer accepts commercial loads of asbestos containing material. See below for alternative locations.
Asbestos fibres pose a health hazard and asbestos containing materials must be removed safely in accordance with legislative regulations. Removal of more than 10 square metres of bonded (non-friable) asbestos, must be done by a licensed individual or business.
From 1 July 2023 the Armadale Landfill and Recycling Facility will no longer accept commercial loads of asbestos. City of Armadale residents may dispose of up to 5kg of properly wrapped asbestos from their residential property. Photo identification with City of Armadale address must be supplied.
It is hard to tell if a material contains asbestos by looking at it. If the material was installed prior to 1990, treat it as though it does contain asbestos. Find out more about asbestos containing products.
The Armadale Landfill and Recycling Facility accepts up to 5kg of correctly wrapped and labelled asbestos Monday to Saturday, 8.30am to 12.30pm. Note: accepted only with photo ID and proof of City of Armadale residential address.

The burial of asbestos is highly regulated and must be in a specified location at the landfill. The current “asbestos pit” is almost full so the City is taking measures to ensure that small amounts of asbestos can still be safely accepted to assist residents. Once the pit is full, the City will no longer be able to accept asbestos anymore as the landfill area will reach its final level and there is no further suitable location.
Asbestos weighing over 5kg is considered a commercial load.

Wearing appropriate personal protection, wrap the asbestos in thick black plastic (.02mm thick) securely tape, then wrap in a second layer of thick black plastic and securely tape. Label the pack with “Caution Asbestos” in 5cm high letters. Ensure no asbestos material is exposed. Alternatively you can purchase a specialised asbestos waste bag. Ordinary zip lock bags are not suitable for containing asbestos waste.
