Unwanted, reusable items such as clothes, furniture, household bric a brac and toys in good condition can be GIFTED, swapped or sold.

Drop 'n' Shop Reuse Centre

Take unwanted usable items to the Drop ‘n’ Shop for free. For more information on acceptable items, visit the Drop 'n' Shop Reuse Centre Page

Find your local charity or donation bin

If an item is good enough to give to a friend, it is good enough to donate. You can find your local charity store or donation bin by searching online. If the donation bin is full, you can go into a store, call for home collection or try another bin. Items left on the ground become litter and end up in landfill.

Swapping and selling

Swapping or selling items you no longer want or need creates space in your home. Make money from unwanted items by advertising them on your local buy and sell pages on Facebook, eBay Gumtree, or gift items on your local Buy Nothing Facebook group. These platforms are used to share items within the community to reduce usable items ending up in landfill.

Items that you cannot gift

Can your item be repaired? Look out for repair cafes in your local area.

Some Australian fashion retailers collect unwanted clothes and textiles in any condition for recycling. Items in poor condition can be turned into cleaning rags or could be sent to a recycling facility, turning these items into new products. Local charities may also accept old textiles to turn them into items for animal organisations.

Old electronic items can also be recycled through our Landfill. For more information, visit the City's E-Waste Disposal page.
