Important notes
Why are only some recyclables accepted for free? The City can cover the cost of handling items such as steel and aluminium by reselling them. Items such as green waste and rubble are costly to process and have little or no resale value and therefore cannot be accepted for free.
The following items need to be separated into different waste streams.
Green waste needs to be separated from general rubbish so it can be turned into compost.
Cardboard needs to be clean and free of rubbish in order for us to recycle it effectively.
Scrap metal and whitegoods are fully recyclable. Metal drums (44-gallon drums) must have the entire lid removed (remove top of drum).
Brick rubble and Concrete is recycled into road base material
Sand/soil can be recycled
Mattresses are split into recyclable components.
Tyres are recycled into rubber products.
E-waste is now banned from Landfill and needs to be sorted correctly.
Household Hazardous Waste needs to be kept out of the landfill so sorting is essential
Batteries - Small household and car batteries are easy to recycle, Li-ion (Lithium) batteries need to be taken to a specialised battery recycler.
Each Tip pass is valid for up to 250kg of sorted domestic waste or up to 250kg of green waste, or 4 passenger (light vehicle) tyres (all off rim) or 2x 4WD tyres (all off rim) or 1 Mattress. Tyres are only available on designated tip passes.
Maximum of four tip passes per entry for Mixed domestic waste, Green waste, Sand, Brick Rubble, Mattress & Tyres.
Payment can be split Tip pass/Cash.
Maximum of 2 mattresses per load. Fees apply without Tip pass.
Tip passes are not accepted for asbestos and specified tyres (only on designated tip passes).
