The City of Armadale’s Young Writers Awards are officially open for 2025. The awards are for students in years 3-12, who reside or attend school in the City.

The awards are open for entry until 30 June 2025, via online application.

Competition categories are broken into the following grade groups of years 3/4, 5/6, 7/8, 9/10 and 11/12.

Mayor Ruth Butterfield said: “The Young Writers Awards are a great opportunity for students to share their literacy prowess.

“In each category there will be a first prize of $200, second prize of $150 and a third prize of $100. Every place getter will receive a trophy, certificate and a free copy of the book containing all the winning stories.

“I encourage all our young writers to enter and share the story that’s been sitting in your imagination, just waiting to be told.”

There will be an extra prize for the work considered the best overall, with a $50 gift voucher and winner’s name placed on the perpetual trophy.

Entries must be prose only and stories should be 2000 words or less. Poetry, scripts or graphic novels will not be accepted.

Finalists in the awards will be notified by Friday 18 July 2025.

Please visit the Library website for full details and terms and conditions of entry.
